This study aims to identify and analyze the interaction between acculturative stressors, coping mechanisms, and subjective well-being (SWB) among higher-level educational migrants in Italy. A total of 41 students and recent graduates completed a questionnaire in English or Italian, which includes socio-demographic items, the Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students - Short Version (ASSIS; Chayinska & Mari, 2014), the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (Brief-COPE; Carver, 1997), the Personal Wellbeing Index - Adult (PWI-A; International Wellbeing Group, 2013), along with multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Additionally, five semi-structured interviews were conducted to deepen the understanding of these variables. Both qualitative and quantitative results reveal that the sample faces diverse stressors, primarily bureaucratic obstacles, difficulties with accommodation and healthcare, financial pressures, and language barriers. Nearly half of the participants report experiencing discrimination based on origin, language, or ethnicity. To manage these challenges, participants employ various coping strategies, often seeking social support. Furthermore, acculturative stress is identified as a predictor of SWB, with almost half of the sample reporting low levels of SWB, indicating potential mental health concerns. The study highlights the importance of targeted institutional support, such as social networks, language courses, and intercultural programs, to aid the adaptation of this group within the Italian cultural context.
