In recent years the study of brain response to infant signals is increasing. However, much remains to be understood, especially taking into consideration that the majority of studies in the literature are about heterosexual mothers. In order to extend knowledge about parental brain, the present thesis work aims to investigate what is the link between the experience of caregiving and brain response to infant signals in a sample of lesbian mothers. The participants' brain activity was investigated (measured with fMRI) during the observation of videos of the face of their own child and unknown children. In addition, a second purpose of this study is to understand how the brain response may be shaped by aspects related to the experience of care, specifically by Caregiver Involvement in the child care and dyadic emotional availability (Emotional Availability Scales).

Abstract
In recent years the study of brain response to infant signals is increasing. However, much remains to be understood, especially taking into consideration that the majority of studies in the literature are about heterosexual mothers. In order to extend knowledge about parental brain, the present thesis work aims to investigate what is the link between the experience of caregiving and brain response to infant signals in a sample of lesbian mothers. The participants' brain activity was investigated (measured with fMRI) during the observation of videos of the face of their own child and unknown children. In addition, a second purpose of this study is to understand how the brain response may be shaped by aspects related to the experience of care, specifically by Caregiver Involvement in the child care and dyadic emotional availability (Emotional Availability Scales).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
