Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is widely employed in films and productions, for economic reasons and for aesthetic purposes. In modern movies, CGI animation plays different roles, acting as a standalone medium in animated films and as a creative tool in live-action productions for generating special effects and integrating or modify elements like characters, environments, and creatures. This thesis intends to examine the historical and technical aspects of visual effects in conveying fantasy in movies. As well, it will explore the process to create CGI, to critically examine the idea that realism is synonymous with quality.

Abstract
Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is widely employed in films and productions, for economic reasons and for aesthetic purposes. In modern movies, CGI animation plays different roles, acting as a standalone medium in animated films and as a creative tool in live-action productions for generating special effects and integrating or modify elements like characters, environments, and creatures. This thesis intends to examine the historical and technical aspects of visual effects in conveying fantasy in movies. As well, it will explore the process to create CGI, to critically examine the idea that realism is synonymous with quality.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
