This thesis examines the role and representation of childhood in the cinematic and television works of Luigi Comencini. Through an in-depth analysis of his films and television productions, the study reconstructs how Comencini captured the child’s gaze, navigating between fantasy and reality, and giving voice and dignity to children in an era when childhood was often misunderstood. The research is divided into three thematic sections: Childhood, Vocation, and Experiences of a Director, organized chronologically to explore the decades from the 1940s to the 1990s. This approach highlights the cinematic and socio-cultural differences related to childhood, with particular focus on the complex or absent relationship with parental figures.
