This thesis aims to describe the occupational structure and the dynamics of the social mobility of the inhabitants of Venice at the beginning of the 19th century. To this end, the registers of marriage publications of the Civil Status of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy, kept at the State Archives in Venice and covering the years 1806, 1807 and 1808, were analysed. Altogether, around 2100 marriages were examined, totalling around 10000 individuals. Thanks to these data, it was possible to reconstruct the occupational structure of the city, observing both the generation of the newlyweds and that of their parents. Furthermore, an analysis was conducted to understand the dynamics of intergenerational social mobility, aimed at better understanding the economic and social fallout of the difficult economic situation Venice was going through after the fall of the Serenissima and the consequent loss of independence.
