The aim of this MA thesis is to realize a preliminary commentary on Paul. Nol. epist. 13 (Ad Pammachium), a work that has not yet been the subject of a comprehensive scholarly analysis. This letter, written by Paulinus at the beginning of his literary career, is also his only consolatio (alongside with the poem Cels. Dolveck (= carm 31 Hartel)) that has been transmitted to the present day. Despite being one of his earliest works, it already reveals some of the author’s distinctive motifs, particularly the contamination between literary genres and the Christian reinterpretation of traditional Roman values. After an introduction on the consolatio genre, the text is presented through four thematic sections (amicitia, grief, almsgiving and reflection on the afterlife). Each section is examined from a lemmatic perspective, alongside with some additional remarks on the blending between literary genres.

Abstract
Each section is examined from a lemmatic perspective, alongside with some additional remarks on the blending between literary genres.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
