Si può far bene l'amore senza rischio. L'HIV/AIDS e l'attivismo LGBT+ in Italia (1980-1990)

The thesis explores the history of LGBT+ activism in Italy during the HIV/AIDS epidemic (1980s-1990s). In particular, it aims to highlight how this crisis not only marked a moment of renewed stigmatization of homosexuality, sex work, and extramarital sexuality but also served as a catalyst for profound transformations in activism and the identity of Italian LGBT+ communities. These changes contributed to redefining the concepts of care, community, and sexuality. Through the analysis of archival documents, grey literature, and oral interviews, the research investigates the new practices and political objectives of the Italian LGBT+ movement in the context of the epidemic, as well as the impact it had on the social life and sexuality of these communities.

La tesi esplora la storia dell’attivismo LGBT+ in Italia negli anni Ottanta e Novanta nel contesto dell’epidemia di HIV/AIDS. In particolare, si propone di evidenziare come questa crisi abbia rappresentato non solo un momento di rinnovata stigmatizzazione dell'omosessualità, del lavoro sessuale e della sessualità extramatrimoniale, ma anche un catalizzatore di profonde trasformazioni nell’attivismo e nell’identità delle comunità LGBT+ italiane, contribuendo a ridefinire i concetti di cura, comunità e sessualità. Attraverso l’analisi di documenti d’archivio, letteratura grigia e interviste orali, la ricerca indaga le nuove pratiche e obiettivi politici del movimento LGBT+ italiano nel contesto dell'epidemia, e l'impatto che essa ha avuto sulla socialità e sessualità di queste comunità.
