We dedicate this study to Isaac Vossius, a Dutch scholar who lived in the 17th century, and his contribution to textual criticism of Catullus and Martial. The scholar's biography, his editions of ancient texts and his works in Latin will be presented. His connection with his mentor Claude Saumaise and the common interests they had with Giuseppe Giusto Scaligero and Isaac Casaubon, members of the Republic of Letters, will be discussed. We will then describe the Vossian library with particular attention to its Latin codices, and we will discuss the scholar's study of Catullus and Martial using his commentary, the Observationes, and his codices.
