This thesis explores the world of buskers and street artists through an autoethnographic perspective, with the aim of analysing the link between street art and freedom. After an overview of the historical origins of performance art, the meaning of freedom that this form of expression embodies is explored. It goes on to describe the contribution of the Chicago School to understanding social dynamics in urban contexts. The research also examines the role of social media, digital payments and busker apps in contemporary street art. It then describes the path to stardom of some artists. The thesis is based on an autoethnographic investigation conducted in the cities of Nice and Padua, offering a personal and immersive perspective on the daily dynamics of street artists and their interaction with the public. Finally, the participant observation conducted at the Ferrara Buskers Festival is a central example to reflect on the social and cultural impact of street art. Through these aspects, this study investigates street art as an expression of creativity and belonging in contemporary society.
