This thesis analyses the historical and educational evolution of Catholic religious instruction, with a particular focus on early childhood education. Through the analysis of historical sources, normative documents, and teaching practices, it traces the main stages that have marked Catholic religion from antiquity to the present day, underscoring how cultural and social changes have influenced pedagogical approaches. It explores the teacher’s role as a key figure in the holistic development of the child, through teaching practices that promote spiritual, values-based, and relational dimensions. The research also highlights the importance of offering an inclusive form of instruction that can integrate principles of secularism and intercultural dialogue within an increasingly heterogeneous school context. The objective is to demonstrate the formative relevance of Catholic religious instruction in early childhood education, highlighting its contribution to the development of relational, moral, and cultural skills in young children.
