Raccontare per Esistere: L'Influenza delle Narrazioni sulla Formazione dell’Identità Personale.

This thesis explores the influence of narratives on personal identity formation, exploring how stories, both individual and collective, are fundamental in shaping and defining the sense of self. The first chapter introduces the concept of narrative identity, delving into the main psychological and philosophical theories that link human existence to the continuous narration of one's life, with a particular focus on the contributions of authors such as Paul Ricoeur and Jerome Bruner. It then explores the phenomenon of the narrating ego and its essential role in the development of self-understanding through storytelling. The second chapter examines collective and mythical narratives, investigating archetypes and universal narrative models drawn from popular culture and myths. In particular, examples such as The Lord of the Rings, the Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Star Wars and the Bible are analysed, showing how these narrative worlds contribute to constructing shared meanings and collective identity models. Finally, an empirical study, conducted by means of a questionnaire, is presented that explores the impact of narratives on individuals' everyday lives and the formation of the self. In conclusion, the thesis emphasises that telling and listening to stories is not only a central act in the construction of the self, but also represents a dynamic and continuous process that reflects and transforms the individual in the cultural and social context in which he or she is embedded.

La presente tesi esplora l'influenza delle narrazioni sulla formazione dell'identità personale, esplorando come le storie, sia individuali che collettive, siano fondamentali nel plasmare e definire il senso del sé. Il primo capitolo introduce il concetto di identità narrativa, approfondendo le principali teorie psicologiche e filosofiche che legano l’esistenza umana alla continua narrazione della propria vita, con un focus particolare sui contributi di autori come Paul Ricoeur e Jerome Bruner. Successivamente, si esplora il fenomeno dell'Io narrante e il suo ruolo essenziale nello sviluppo della comprensione di sé, attraverso lo storytelling. Il secondo capitolo esamina le narrazioni collettive e mitiche, indagando archetipi e modelli narrativi universali, tratti dalla cultura popolare e da miti. In particolare, vengono analizzati esempi come quelli de Il Signore degli Anelli, le Cronache di Narnia, Harry Potter, Guerre Stellari e la Bibbia, mostrando come questi mondi narrativi contribuiscano a costruire significati condivisi e modelli identitari collettivi. Infine, viene presentato uno studio empirico, condotto tramite un questionario, che esplora l’impatto delle narrazioni sulla vita quotidiana degli individui e sulla formazione loro del sé. In conclusione, la tesi sottolinea che raccontare e ascoltare storie non solo è un atto centrale nella costruzione del sé, ma rappresenta anche un processo dinamico e continuo che riflette e trasforma l’individuo nel contesto culturale e sociale in cui è inserito.
