This thesis deals with the topic of maltreatment and abuse in childhood through a psychoanalytic and sociological lens. The first chapter lays the foundation for understanding the phenomenon, providing data regarding the frequency of the phenomenon and its effects found through empirical studies, as well as an in-depth analysis through attachment theory and the theories of Winnicott and Klein. The second chapter includes an analysis of the phenomenon through a psychoanalytic lens that passes through various authors and arrives at self psychology and object relations theory. The third chapter delves into the topic of abusive families from a sociological perspective, therefore how child abuse contributes to cycles of social exclusion, crime and marginalization, how macro-structural factors (unemployment, poverty, social exclusion) influence abusive behavior and an analysis of the social norms that tolerate or justify violence against children. the last chapter includes the presentation of a treatment for parents and for the child with a focus on the therapist's position, with a summary conclusion of the path through the baradacco theory of harmful plots.
