The SPES project, currently under development at the Legnaro National Laboratories of INFN, aims at the production of radioactive ion beams using the ISOL (Isotope Separation On-Line) technique, for advanced applications in nuclear physics and the medical field. The system involves the irradiation of a Target-Ion Source (TIS) unit by a proton beam generated by a cyclotron, supported by pneumatic and hydraulic systems for coupling and cooling operations. The goal of this thesis is the implementation of automated procedures, using industrial PLCs, for the management of purge, fill, and refill phases of the ISOL system. The developed control logic is part of the Machine Protection System (MPS), which communicates via MODBUS protocol, and is designed to ensure high reliability and safety. An automated test system was also implemented, based on a PLC simulator and Python code, to validate all operational scenarios.

Abstract
An automated test system was also implemented, based on a PLC simulator and Python code, to validate all operational scenarios.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
