I would like to dedicate my thesis to the ethnic and national minorities in Japan. I will present their current situation in Japan, how they are perceived, what they face on a daily basis and what rights they have. I would mainly like to focus on the Ainu and the Korean minority, but my work will cover all minorities. Other ethno-national minorities in Japan include: the Brazilians, the Burakumin, Chinese, Filipinos, ‘Hafu’ (mixed marriages) or Ryukyuans. Japan in colloquial view is a homogeneous country in terms of population. However, one must not forget a certain population that, through a policy of forced assimilation and denationalization have suffered from their identification. The issue of the work is relevant, and my aim is to draw attention to the social inequalities shaped by Japan's policies of isolationism and nationalism.
