This paper is about audiovisual translation, specifically the subtitling of the French short film Jean fell in love. After presenting an overview of audiovisual translation – from its history to the two most widespread techniques, i.e. dubbing and subtitling – this work examines the French and Italian subtitles of the aforementioned short film. It focuses mainly on the language variety used – the Youth language – pointing out the differences and the difficulties in finding a relevant translation in the target language.
