Madre e bambino: il ruolo dell'empatia nello sviluppo della loro relazione

This thesis explores the role of maternal empathy and prenatal attachment in the development of the mother–infant relationship during the early months of life. Using a longitudinal design, mother–infant dyads were followed from pregnancy through to the child’s 18 months of age. Maternal empathy was assessed using the Empathy Quotient (EQ), while prenatal attachment was measured through the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI), whose factorial structure captures relational and empathic dimensions. The quality of mother–infant interaction was observed using the PICCOLO (Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes). Control variables included maternal psychological well-being (EPDS, DASS-21) and child development (Griffiths Scales).

La presente tesi esplora il ruolo dell’empatia materna e dell’attaccamento prenatale nello sviluppo della relazione madre-bambino nei primi mesi di vita. Attraverso un disegno longitudinale, sono state seguite diadi madre-bambino dalla gravidanza fino ai 18 mesi del bambino. L’empatia è stata misurata mediante l’Empathy Quotient (EQ), mentre l’attaccamento prenatale è stato valutato attraverso il Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI), la cui struttura fattoriale consente di cogliere anche dimensioni relazionali ed empatiche. La qualità dell’interazione madre-bambino è stata osservata attraverso PICCOLO. Sono state inoltre considerate variabili di controllo relative al benessere psicologico materno (EPDS, DASS-21) e allo sviluppo del bambino (Griffiths Scales).
