This thesis investigates the role of industrial symbiosis as a way to decarbonize heavy industry in France through a comparative analysis of two of the country’s largest industrial zones: Fos-sur-Mer and Dunkirk. Both sites have different approaches for their transformation. Using a combination of technical analysis, environmental impact assessment and policy review, this study evaluates the performance of symbiosis initiatives in both zones.
