This thesis investigates the dynamics and implications of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) within the Italian small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) landscape. Drawing on a detailed case study of an acquisition involving two Italian firms, it explores the strategic motivations, financial assessments, and operational synergies that underpin successful M&A transactions in this segment. The analysis applies both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including strategic fit evaluation, to examine pre- and post-acquisition phases. Particular attention is given to the challenges of post-merger integration, especially in aligning organizational structures and governance systems.
