This thesis presents an edition of the Cronichetta by Amaretto Mannelli, based on manuscript Panciatichiano 65, preserved at the National Central Library of Florence. The work recounts universal history from its origins to the emperor Zenone, interweaving biblical, historical, and mythological elements in a didactic perspective. The study is based on a transcription of the text, carried out with the aim of maintaining the highest possible fidelity to the manuscript, and on a comparison with the printed edition curated by Domenico Manni in 1733, titled Cronichette antiche di vari scrittori del buon secolo della lingua toscana, which also includes Mannelli’s Cronichetta. A critical apparatus has been prepared, recording substantial variants between the manuscript and the printed edition, including possible emendations. The thesis also includes a chapter dedicated to the figure of Amaretto Mannelli and the history of the manuscript, as well as a linguistic analysis focused on the features of late 14th-century Florentine. The comparison between the manuscript and Manni’s edition reveals, in addition to graphic and linguistic modernization, some omissions and modifications to names and dates; overall, however, the text does not appear to be significantly altered. The general aim of the study is to offer a transcription that adheres as closely as possible to the original text, thus restoring autonomy and value to Mannelli’s work.
