As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes a part of daily life, it is creating an uneven technological edge in the job market, where machines and humans are constantly working together. This shift in technology poses a crucial problem for organizations: how to move from seeing AI as just a way to automate tasks to designing systems that let AI work alongside people as a true teammate. Traditional organizational models, with their top-down structures and separate departments, are not designed to utilize the benefits of human-machine collaboration, presumably leading to mismatched goals, lost trust, and missed opportunities. Tackling with this challenge for humans is crucial because AI has a potential to bring significant productivity gains, especially for those workers with lower skills. However, it may also pose major risks like job displacement, standardized outputs, and the probable erosion of employee trust if not implemented with a human-centered approach. If organizations do not deliberately design for the new collaborative system, they will not only fail to benefit from substantial performance benefits but also risk creating the work environments that can undermine employee commitment and professional identity. As a result, the ability to effectively integrate AI as a teammate is becoming a key factor in achieving a competitive advantage and strong organizational resilience. This thesis views the human–AI collaboration as an organizational design challenge, thus offers a practical way to address it. First, it analyzes AI's disruption of traditional hierarchies, advocating for more agile, organic structures where complex human tasks complement machine capabilities. Second, the thesis examines the team-level collaboration patterns of effective human-AI teams, identifying trust, explainability, and new fusion skills as critical components. It tests two primary models for collaboration: "biflow mode" which divide tasks between human and AI, and "uniflow mode" in which they deeply integrate their workflows with the technology. Achieving these collaborative states depends on fulfilling the psychological contract in an AI-augmented workplace to build employee duty. Third, the thesis considers that a clear organizational purpose serves as a key anchor, aligning human motivation with AI's operational goals beyond mere profit maximization. A purpose-driven leadership approach fosters a culture of psychological safety, which is critical for encouraging the experimentation and learning required for innovation and ensuring that powerful technologies serve a fundamentally human-centric mission. Ultimately, this work provides an advised model to build organizations that treat AI not as a tool to be managed, but as a teammate with whom to collaborate, thereby unlocking new performance boundaries and creating a space for more meaningful work.
