This master’s thesis explores the poetic work of Évariste de Parny and Antoine de Bertin, two Creole poets from the island of Bourbon (now La Réunion), who had an important impact in the second half of the 18th-century French poetry. Through a historical, biographical, and literary analysis, the study highlights their poetic sensibility, expressed in themes such as travel, exile, love, and nature. Parny and Bertin anticipated certain tendencies of Romanticism and influenced several 19th-century French poets. The thesis aims to shed light on their contribution to the history of French poetry.
