This research analyzes the influence of Francesco Petrarca’s poetry on the development of the Renaissance madrigal, adopting a historical and musicological perspective. After providing an overview of the cultural and political context of the Italian Renaissance, the study examines the crucial role of Petrarca and Petrarchism in shaping the poetic language and imagery of the sixteenth century. In particular, it explores how Petrarchan texts — characterized by refined psychological introspection and a distinct intrinsic musicality — inspired the composers of the sixteenth-century madrigal, thus fostering an increasingly conscious synthesis between poetic word and musical writing. Through the analysis of selected poetic and musical examples, the research demonstrates how the convergence between humanistic literary sensibility and compositional innovation contributed to defining the musical madrigal on Petrarchan texts as one of the most emblematic phenomena of European Renaissance culture.

Abstract
Through the analysis of selected poetic and musical examples, the research demonstrates how the convergence between humanistic literary sensibility and compositional innovation contributed to defining the musical madrigal on Petrarchan texts as one of the most emblematic phenomena of European Renaissance culture.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
