This study analyzes the relationship between Problematic Social Networking Sites Use (PSNSU) and the constructs of grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, authenticity, shame and guilt in a sample of young adults (18–35 years). The results show that vulnerable narcissism, associated with low authenticity, self-alienation and shame with a tendency toward social withdrawal, constitutes a significant factor in PSNSU. Moreover, women report higher levels of PSNSU, shame and guilt compared to men. The results provide practical and concrete insights for awareness campaigns and professional training, aimed at promoting greater awareness of emotional experiences, along with a more conscious and functional use of digital platforms.
