The main objective of this work was to investigate the role of verbal suggestions and the placebo effect on psychophysical performance. In order to carry out this investigation, a study was conducted, consisting of three conditions: two experimental conditions called "placebo-suggestion" and "suggestion" condition and one control. To measure the psychophysical performance of the participants, two tests were used: the Stroop test and the Cold Pressor test. In the experimental conditions, participants were told that they would achieve an improvement in their performance in the repetition of the test, while in the control condition they were told nothing. To test whether placebo could increase the suggestive intervention, a placebo was administered in the placebo-suggestion condition. The research hypotheses envisaged were the following: in the two experimental conditions there should have been an improvement in psychophysical performance, namely: in the Cold Pressor test a decrease in perceived pain and an increase in tolerance time and in the Stroop test, a reduction in the number of errors and reaction times. In particular, the expected improvement in the placebo-suggestion condition should have been greater than in the "suggestion" condition. The results of the research regarding the Cold Pressor test, showed an improvement in performance only in the pain perceived in the "placebo" condition, did not show an improvement in tolerance time and no significant differences were observed between the "suggestion" condition and the control condition. As for the Stroop test, no significant effects related to the condition were observed. From these results emerges the need for further investigation and research.

Abstract
From these results emerges the need for further investigation and research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
