A single-case research study was conducted to evaluate the change process of a patient over the course of 12 sessions of third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The theoretical framework adopted was Wilma Bucci’s Multiple Code Theory, with a particular focus on the Referential Activity process, which describes how emotional and sensory experiences are translated into verbal expression. To measure the progression of this process, the Italian Discourse Attributes Analysis Program (IDAAP) was applied. This is an automated linguistic coding system that enabled the assessment of the degree of integration between verbal and nonverbal systems throughout the therapy sessions. Clinical outcomes were measured using the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory – Third Edition (MCMI-III), administered at the beginning of treatment, after the 12 sessions, and at a 3-month follow-up. Results indicate that the treatment was effective: the patient demonstrated an increased capacity for both cognitive and emotional elaboration.
