This dissertation aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) through a clinical analysis of a sample of thirteen participants with psychotic functioning. The treatment, delivered in a group setting, is assessed across different areas of psychopathological functioning, including positive and negative symptoms of psychosis and related social and relational functioning. The tools used for this purpose are the Outcome Questionnaire-45 (OQ-45) for general clinical evaluation, the Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (RFQ) to measure reflective functioning, and the Mentalized Affectivity Scale (MAS) to explore emotional processing through the concept of mentalized affectivity. The dissertation also aims to place the clinical study in context through a historical and theoretical overview of psychiatry and the development of understanding of mental health and illness, providing a cultural and institutional framework for the care process in which the research took place.
