This thesis explores the relationship between sustainability, territorial responsibility, and governance within the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It aims to understand how the principles of sustainable development and shared responsibility are implemented in territorial management within a region marked by strong local identity, economic dynamism, and increasing tourism pressure. After outlining the evolution of the sustainability concept, from early environmental awareness to the integrated framework of the 2030 Agenda, the research examines the economic, social, environmental, political, and institutional dimensions of sustainable development, emphasizing territorial responsibility as a key tool of multi-level governance. Through the case study of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG district, the thesis highlights how wine and food tourism can drive local development while also posing challenges related to environmental balance, social cohesion, and participatory governance. The findings underline the importance of collaborative strategies among institutions, enterprises, and communities to foster a genuinely sustainable and inclusive development model.
