Based on technological innovation, an entire sector of the labor market has developed, known as the “gig economy”, an economic model based on the spread of discontinuous work relationships, usually mediated by digital platforms. This system opens up new opportunities, such as greater worker autonomy, but at the same time presents numerous contradictions that give rise to situations of uncertainty, precariousness, and protest. This thesis aims to provide an overview of the concept of the gig economy, analyzing the various forms of platform-based work in order to define their characteristics and specific features. Subsequently, it will examine the socioeconomic context that has fostered the rise of the gig economy, focusing on the role of big data and the ways in which algorithmic control is directly and indirectly shaping work practices. The third part addresses the forms of resistance put in place by gig economy workers, exploring both collective and individual practices of claim-making, with reference to the actions of protest movements and ongoing trade union struggles. Finally, a case study will be presented, gathering firsthand testimonies from delivery riders about their perceptions of platform work and their relationship with digital platforms.

Abstract
Finally, a case study will be presented, gathering firsthand testimonies from delivery riders about their perceptions of platform work and their relationship with digital platforms.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
