Karl Jaspers' philosophy deals with the theme of transcendence by placing particular attention on it and this allows, also through a comparison with his contemporary M. Heidegger, to analyse the theme of the symbol more deeply. Jaspersian existentialism is based on the connotation given to the cipher, or the metaphysical symbol, as a bridge between the reality of being-there and that of non-objectifiable transcendence which resides beyond the limit of the knowable and it is for this reason that it is fundamental. To get to the heart of the matter, however, it is necessary to understand the criticisms that Jaspers and Heidegger themselves have addressed to the modern world. The consideration of transcendence as the objectification of its horizon, bringing the being that is beyond the entity to nothingness, for the former; For the latter instead, the flattening of being to a mere entity, again leading the being to be nothingness. From this contextualization we can then proceed to deal specifically with the value of the symbol. As for Jaspers, the symbol has a fundamental value in his thought, being precisely the means par excellence to be able to experience contact with transcendence in our existence. For Heidegger the theme is initially problematic, given his criticism of the traditional concept of “symbol”, in use in the philosophy he criticized. It is also necessary to underline how much this distance he placed takes on the appearance of a rejection of the value traditionally attributed to the term, rather than to the symbol itself, given that in various points of his philosophy elements comparable to the role of the symbol can be traced, as in the collection of essays On the way to language. It will be precisely on this basis that the following discussion will be structured, with the aim of understanding how Karl Jaspers' proposal, assisted by Heideggerian philosophy, leads to the recovery of symbolic value through contact with transcendence.

Abstract
It will be precisely on this basis that the following discussion will be structured, with the aim of understanding how Karl Jaspers' proposal, assisted by Heideggerian philosophy, leads to the recovery of symbolic value through contact with transcendence.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
