The thesis “From institutional speeches to social media: European rearmament in the communication strategies of Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein” aims to analyse and compare the communication strategies adopted by Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers, and Elly Schlein, Secretary of the Democratic Party, through various types of channels, both institutional and digital. The first chapter offers a theoretical overview of political communication, from its historical roots to contemporary developments, illustrating the evolution of the relationship between political actors, the media and citizens, and the effects of mediatisation on the public sphere. The second chapter explores the role of social media in contemporary political communication, examining platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok and their function in building consensus and developing so-called “pop politics” through precise storytelling and engagement strategies. The third chapter is dedicated to the presentation of the corpus of analysis, collected between March and July 2025 and focused on the theme of European rearmament, chosen for its political and media relevance. The criteria for selecting the materials (institutional speeches, television interviews, press releases and social media posts) are illustrated and the objectives of the survey are outlined, which aim to compare the discursive strategies, rhetorical frames, ethos and lexicon used by the two leaders. The fourth chapter focuses entirely on the analysis of the collected corpus and is divided into two parts: the first, qualitative in nature, examines the construction of the public image of Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein, their linguistic choices and communicative registers in different contexts, comparing institutional and social Language; the second, quantitative in nature, offers a brief analysis of the keywords and tone of the messages. Finally, the thesis concludes with a summary of the results and a reflection on the role of storytelling in shaping contemporary public debate.
