This thesis investigates the relationship between cinema, tourism, and territorial rebranding, focusing on the case of the film Parasite (2019) and its impact on the city of Seoul within the broader context of the Korean Wave (Hallyu). After defining the concept of film-induced tourism and examining the role of film commissions as instruments of attraction and promotion, the study explores the economic, cultural, and symbolic outcomes generated by visual productions on local territories. Seoul is interpreted as a global megacity and capital of Hallyu, capable of combining tradition and modernity within city branding strategies. The analysis demonstrates how Parasite has contributed to strengthening South Korea’s international image, enhancing its tourist appeal, and consolidating processes of redefinition of the national imaginary.

Abstract
This thesis investigates the relationship between cinema, tourism, and territorial rebranding, focusing on the case of the film Parasite (2019) and its impact on the city of Seoul within the broader context of the Korean Wave (Hallyu). After defining the concept of film-induced tourism and examining the role of film commissions as instruments of attraction and promotion, the study explores the economic, cultural, and symbolic outcomes generated by visual productions on local territories. Seoul is interpreted as a global megacity and capital of Hallyu, capable of combining tradition and modernity within city branding strategies. The analysis demonstrates how Parasite has contributed to strengthening South Korea’s international image, enhancing its tourist appeal, and consolidating processes of redefinition of the national imaginary.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
