This research analyzes the origin, evolution, and main figures of the nouveau cirque, an artistic movement that significantly shaped the history of circus between 1968 and 1998. Through a reconstruction of circus history, the study identifies the causes and characteristics of the rupture that led to the current distinction between traditional and contemporary circus. Originating in France and strongly influenced by the cultural and political currents of May ’68, the nouveau cirque emerges as a movement in which circus language functions as a tool for aesthetic exploration, social critique, and utopian aspiration. The research adopts a bibliographic and documentary approach, based on critical analysis of specialized texts and sector studies, aiming to reconstruct the historical and theoretical context of the phenomenon and to outline its main developmental trajectories.

Abstract
This research analyzes the origin, evolution, and main figures of the nouveau cirque, an artistic movement that significantly shaped the history of circus between 1968 and 1998. Through a reconstruction of circus history, the study identifies the causes and characteristics of the rupture that led to the current distinction between traditional and contemporary circus. Originating in France and strongly influenced by the cultural and political currents of May ’68, the nouveau cirque emerges as a movement in which circus language functions as a tool for aesthetic exploration, social critique, and utopian aspiration. The research adopts a bibliographic and documentary approach, based on critical analysis of specialized texts and sector studies, aiming to reconstruct the historical and theoretical context of the phenomenon and to outline its main developmental trajectories.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
