The thesis examines the survival strategies adopted by detainees in the Soviet gulags, with particular attention to both individual approaches and collective dynamics. Through the analysis of testimonies, memoirs, and documentary sources, the study investigates how prisoners coped with the extreme conditions of the repressive system: hunger, forced labor, isolation, and ideological control. It highlights mechanisms of adaptation, forms of solidarity, and daily practices aimed at preserving personal identity and defending human dignity. The research also considers the role of the prisoners’ social and cultural backgrounds in shaping these strategies. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of life in the gulags, offering a multifaceted view of resilience under conditions of oppression.
