This thesis examines the multifaceted role of English in shaping the identities and experiences of young Pakistanis living in Italy. English functions as a bridge between their Pakistani cultural heritage and the societal norms of the host country, facilitating both social integration and global connectivity. Through a mixed-methods approach, including 20 semi-structured interviews, a survey of 100 participants, and online observations, the study explores how English impacts educational opportunities, professional growth, and social interactions. Findings reveal that English plays a crucial role in enabling young Pakistanis to build academic and professional networks, granting them access to international opportunities and enhancing their social mobility. At the same time, it serves as a cultural space for negotiating hybrid identities, allowing them to maintain transnational ties through digital platforms while integrating into Italian society. However, the growing dominance of English and Italian contributes to the gradual attrition of Urdu, raising concerns about heritage preservation. The research concludes that English is more than a communication tool; it is a symbol of modernity and a mediator of identity in a multilingual context. Promoting multilingual policies and supporting bilingual education could help young migrants thrive without losing their cultural roots, offering a model for inclusive integration in multicultural societies.
