Interpretazioni del Carnevale e la figura del fantoccio: il caso del rogo di Mezza Quaresima

In the first chapter, different interpretations of the Carnival celebration are analyzed, including its hypothetical origins, the tradition of masking, as one of its degining elements, and the relationship between Carnival and various institutions, especially the Church. The second chapter focused on the cyclical nature of the Carnival celebration, as it is a yearly recurring event that often includes the element of the scapegoat, usually represented by a puppet that is later destroyed in various ways. The final chapter discusses the celebration of Giovedì Grasso, better known as the Old Woman’s Bonfire of Mid-Lent, which is celebrated in the Brescia area. This is examined through a series of interviews and by comparing how the festival is perceived by both older and younger generation.

L’argomento che è stato approfondito nella mia tesi è il Carnevale e la sua continuità nella festa di Mezza Quaresima. Nel primo capitolo vengono analizzate le differenti interpretazioni sulla festività del Carnevale, sulle sue ipotetiche origini, sul mascheramento in quanto uno degli elementi che lo caratterizzano, sul rapporto tra il Carnevale e le varie istituzioni, soprattutto con la Chiesa. Nel secondo capitolo viene individuata la ciclicità della festività del Carnevale poiché è un evento che si ripete annualmente e che porta con sé anche l’elemento del capro espiatorio, spesso personificato in un fantoccio e poi distrutto in differenti modi. Nell’ultimo capitolo si racconta della festività del Giovedì Grasso, meglio conosciuta come falò della Vecchia di Mezza Quaresima festeggiata nel Bresciano, facendo una serie di interviste e paragonando il modo in cui viene concepita questa festività dalle vecchie e nuove generazioni.
