The menstrual cycle involves complex hormonal fluctuations that influence not only physiological but also cognitive and emotional functioning. This literature review aims to examine the relationship between hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle and their impact on attention, memory, mood, and emotion regulation. Special emphasis is placed on the experience of individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), exploring how menstrual phases may exacerbate or modulate cognitive and emotional symptoms. By synthesizing recent findings from neuropsychological and hormonal research, the thesis seeks to highlight the importance of individualized approaches in psychological and clinical settings. Understanding these interactions can contribute to more gender-sensitive mental health support and further research on neurodiversity in women.
