Substance use and addiction is a prevalent and rising health concern worldwide. This thesis aims to explore the relationship between substance addiction and the Dark Triad personality traits- narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism - through a comprehensive literature review. Utilising both empirical research and theoretical frameworks, this dissertation illustrates how these traits, both individually and collectively, relate to substance use and addiction and may make individuals more or less predisposed to developing addiction
