Emotional intelligence (EI) is a key psychological construct in the study of individual and collective performance, as it involves the ability to recognize, understand, and regulate one’s own emotions as well as those of others. Recent research has highlighted the crucial role of EI in the sports domain, influencing competitive stress management, motivation, focus, and team dynamics. This thesis aims to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and athletic performance, examining both theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. After a critical review of the main models of EI, the study explores how emotional competencies contribute to enhancing psychological resilience, fostering team cohesion, and optimizing coping strategies under high-pressure conditions. Findings suggest that emotional intelligence not only serves as a predictor of athletic performance but also represents a fundamental resource for the personal and professional development of athletes.

After a critical review of the main models of EI, the study explores how emotional competencies contribute to enhancing psychological resilience, fostering team cohesion, and optimizing coping strategies under high-pressure conditions.
