As of today, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), suicide is defined as “the act of deliberately killing oneself”. Whereas per the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), suicide is “death caused by self-directed injurious behavior with intent to die as a result of the behaviour” and it also specifies that, to be classified as such, the act has to be intentional, fatal, self-inflicted, associated with mental health issues, and motivated by the desire to die. Taken together, these definitions highlight the continuously evolving understanding of suicide across multiple disciplines and contexts. Such progression demonstrate the complexity of the phenomenon and the vital need for a multidisciplinary approach to its study and prevention techniques.

Abstract
As of today, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), suicide is defined as “the act of deliberately killing oneself”. Whereas per the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), suicide is “death caused by self-directed injurious behavior with intent to die as a result of the behaviour” and it also specifies that, to be classified as such, the act has to be intentional, fatal, self-inflicted, associated with mental health issues, and motivated by the desire to die. Taken together, these definitions highlight the continuously evolving understanding of suicide across multiple disciplines and contexts. Such progression demonstrate the complexity of the phenomenon and the vital need for a multidisciplinary approach to its study and prevention techniques.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
