The thesis, and the corresponding internship, aims to identify, study, and enhance the fossil remains belonging to the Museum of Nature and Humankind of the University of Padua. The remains in question had been placed in a box in the Museum's storage room in the early 1980s and have never been disturbed. They are fossil bones of a giant sloth. Along with the fossils, the box also contained documentation indicating the location of their discovery in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. The excavation took place in Pucallpa, Peru, in the Bolognesi area, three hours from Amahuaca, in January 1978. The thesis provides some general information on the evolutionary history and the different families of ground sloths, with particular attention to the sloths found in Peru. These remains were briefly described, catalogued, photographed, and assigned to the family level, now recognized as Megatheriidae. Due to the incompleteness of the fossil remains analyzed, it was not possible to proceed with measurements and identification of the genus and species to which they belonged.
