Monitoring of Emys orbicularis L. populations and habitat in three areas of Northern Italy: Paludi di Ostiglia, Palude del Busatello, and Oasi Cave di Noale. For each site, the monitoring activity was divided into multiple four-day sessions. At the Paludi di Ostiglia and Palude del Busatello sites, the activity was organized as follows: 1) On the first day, the traps were opened and baited with fresh fish; 2) Over the next three days, the traps were checked and the captured species were extracted; 3) In the case of Louisiana crayfish, all individuals were collected in a bucket, weighed, and finally disposed of after being frozen; 4) In the case of Trachemys, they were first measured and then transported to a holding center; 5) In the case of non-native fish species, they were first identified and then released, with the exception of wels catfish (Silurus glanis), which were killed; 6) For the target species Emys orbicularis, the captured individuals were measured, sexed, and finally tagged. 7) On the last day of the session, after the animals were removed, the traps were closed and placed out of the water. At the Oasi Cave di Noale site, the same activity was carried out with defused traps.
