This paper investigates in depth the influence of the menstrual cycle on female physical and cognitive performance, adopting a compilative approach based on a review of international scientific literature. The hormonal fluctuations that characterise the menstrual cycle have significant effects on numerous physiological systems, including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, metabolic and central nervous systems, with tangible consequences for athletes' training, performance and recovery. The aim of the thesis is twofold: on the one hand, to analyse the physiological mechanisms that regulate the hormonal cycle and their influence on performance parameters; on the other hand, to discuss the practical implications of this knowledge with regard to training planning, injury prevention and psychological support. The thesis is divided into two parts: the first provides the physiological basis of the menstrual cycle and analyses the impact of hormones on physical performance (strength, endurance, power, recovery, risk of injury); the second addresses cognitive and psychological effects, inter-individual differences and future research prospects.
