This paper aims to thoroughly analyze the role of the nurse in the care pathway of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with a specific focus on the management of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). Hemodialysis is a lifesaving therapy for these patients, and AVFs are recognized as an optimal vascular access method due to their longevity and reduced incidence of complications. This paper, intended as a review of the literature on this topic, presents the nurse as a key figure in the management and therapeutic education of patients, in promoting self-management, and in improving treatment adherence and quality of life. The importance of nursing management of complications that may occur during and after dialysis sessions is also highlighted. In summary, the paper highlights how the nurse is not simply a practitioner of procedures, but rather a "central professional" in the therapeutic pathway of hemodialysis patients. Her technical expertise in AVF management and her role in patient education and support are crucial to the long-term success of therapy and to ensuring the patient's well-being.
