This work examines the phenomenon of acquisitions among digital platforms, highlighting the economic and strategic motivations that drive them, as well as their implications on competition and innovation. Digital platforms, due to the strong network effects that characterize them, tend to create concentrated markets and maintain dominant positions. Among them, the most powerful are the Big Tech, which have established their dominance in the digital market through numerous acquisitions carried out over the years. From a regulatory perspective, the study analyzes the Digital Markets Act, the tool used by the European Union to regulate gatekeepers in order to ensure a fair and contestable market. Finally, it explores the antitrust actions aimed at protecting competition, focusing on the trial between the Federal Trade Commission and Meta.
