This thesis examines the minimum wage as an economic and social policy tool, assessing its effects and limitations in the Italian and European context. After providing a theoretical and comparative overview, the research focuses on the national debate, marked by the absence of a specific law and the central role of collective bargaining. Potential benefits, such as reducing in-work poverty, are discussed alongside possible risks for employment and competitiveness, concluding with reflections on alternative and complementary policies.

Abstract
This thesis examines the minimum wage as an economic and social policy tool, assessing its effects and limitations in the Italian and European context. After providing a theoretical and comparative overview, the research focuses on the national debate, marked by the absence of a specific law and the central role of collective bargaining. Potential benefits, such as reducing in-work poverty, are discussed alongside possible risks for employment and competitiveness, concluding with reflections on alternative and complementary policies.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
