The paper proposes to investigate the reciprocal relationship of suggestions and influences between Edward Hopper and cinema. The artist was a great lover, as himself has repeatedly stated, of cinema, and from it he acquired a certain way of structuring his compositions, the using light, and inserting characters. In the same way, he was the inspiration for many directors, who cited some of his paintings in their movies and, more generally, took up and shared his poetics and vision.

L'artista era un grande appassionato, come da egli stesso più volte dichiarato, di cinema, e da esso ha acquisito un certo modo di strutturare le sue composizioni, di utilizzare la luce, di inserire i personaggi. Allo stesso modo è stato egli stesso ad essere di ispirazione per molti registi, che nei loro film ne hanno citato alcuni suoi dipinti e, più in generale, ne hanno ripreso e condiviso la poetica e la visione.
