This research explores the concept of home and the experience of dwelling through the lens of communal living, with a specific focus on Italian ecovillages and a case study of the Meraki ecovillage. Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective that weaves together literary geography, anthropology, sociology, and philosophy, the thesis investigates the home as a place rich in symbolic, emotional, and political meanings. Following a theoretical reflection on domestic space, drawing on authors such as Maurizio Vitta, Alison Blunt, Robyn Dowling and Yi-Fu Tuan, the focus shifts to the communal dwelling practices enacted within ecovillages. Through a qualitative analysis of the Meraki case, taken as an emblematic example of an alternative housing model that combines ecological sustainability with community building, the thesis proposes a reading of the ecovillage as a spatial device for socio-environmental experimentation. The aim of the research is to offer a critical reflection on the geographies of dwelling, highlighting how ecovillages represent an alternative to the dominant logics of contemporary housing, and how such experiences may contribute to the development of new ways of living that are more sustainable and attuned to the social and relational needs of individuals.

Abstract
The aim of the research is to offer a critical reflection on the geographies of dwelling, highlighting how ecovillages represent an alternative to the dominant logics of contemporary housing, and how such experiences may contribute to the development of new ways of living that are more sustainable and attuned to the social and relational needs of individuals.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
