The thesis analyzes the phenomenon of overtourism, with special attention to the context of the Balearic Islands, one of the European tourist destinations most affected by the effects of mass tourism. After an overview of the development of international tourism and the role of Spain as a leading country in the sector, the specific dynamics of the archipelago are explored, where the uncontrolled growth of tourist flows has generated significant consequences on the social fabric, the local economy and the real estate market. Through the analysis of management policies and strategies adopted at local, national and European level, the research aims to highlight critical issues and possible solutions for a more sustainable management of tourist flows. The aim is to offer a critical reflection on the balance between economic development and the well-being of the resident population, proposing guidelines and future prospects for responsible tourism in the Balearics.
