This research analyses how tourism, especially luxury tourism, has had and continues to have a strong economic impact on countries around the world, particularly in Europe, which is considered the most popular tourist destination in the world. In particular, the research focuses on the relationship between luxury and sustainability, taking the Principality of Monaco as a case study. Monaco is a refined and elegant destination, thanks to its exclusive events and glamorous, chic charm, is a popular destination for high-end tourism, which must nevertheless be controlled in order to protect the rich cultural and natural heritage of the area. Despite this, it is essential that the microstate implements new policies and strategies for destination management and destination marketing in order to transform unbridled luxury into sustainable luxury, seeking to minimize environmental impacts. Therefore, the aim of my research is to analyze how a renowned destination such as Monte Carlo can successfully combine luxury tourism with sustainable tourism while maintaining high standards of quality and competitiveness in the tourism sector. The methodology adopted is based on an analysis of the concept of luxury and sustainability, followed by an analysis of the Principality of Monaco and how it is seeking to adopt different sustainable initiatives in order to ensure the well-being of its citizens and provide tourists with an authentic and exclusive holiday experience that respects the environment. The results of my research show that the concepts of sustainability and luxury go side by side, as both are based on quality and durability, responding to the growing demand from new high-end travellers who are looking for a unique, personalized and, above all, sustainable holiday experience, focusing on the art, culture and traditions of the area they are visiting. However, based on analyses carried out on the Principality, shows that it has been an elite and sustainable destination for centuries, preserving its appeal in the tourism industry to this day.
