Dalla caduta del muro alla riunificazione: trasformazioni sociali e identitarie nella Germania dell'Est (1989-1991)

This thesis examines the process of German reunification between 1989 and 1991, focusing on social and identity transformations in East Germany. Using a historical and socio-political approach, the study analyzes the consequences of the rapid integration of the GDR into the Federal Republic of Germany, with particular attention to institutional, economic, and symbolic changes. The analysis highlights how reunification was experienced by large segments of the East German population not only as an opportunity, but also as a profound social and identity shock, revealing persistent challenges in the process of integration.

La tesi analizza il processo di riunificazione tedesca tra il 1989 e il 1991, con particolare attenzione alle trasformazioni sociali e identitarie nella Germania orientale. Attraverso un approccio storico e socio-politico, il lavoro esamina le conseguenze della rapida integrazione della DDR nella Repubblica Federale, soffermandosi sugli effetti economici, istituzionali e simbolici della transizione. L’analisi mette in luce come la riunificazione sia stata vissuta da ampi settori della popolazione orientale non solo come un’opportunità, ma anche come uno shock sociale e identitario, evidenziando le difficoltà di integrazione e le fratture emerse nel periodo post-1989.
